This is Mamdani’s “these aren’t the droids you’re looking for” moment. Trump has always fawned over people with combinations of charisma, power, wealth, and popularity. Mamdani has enough of those things that Trump once again wants to be seen with “the cool kids”

The importance of this is that whether or not you believe in MTG’s sincerity (I don’t), her saying these things creates cracks in the MAGA movement that give some voters the permission to break from it and break from Trump. She’s obviously distancing herself from something she sees coming.

It’s sad that this is all too often true. The right really has to get back to having principles and not treating everything through a partisan lens. This didn’t used to be the case.
