Pay for people to go to medical/nursing school? That's ridiculous. We're already reaching the cap on amount of doctors that can be licensed yearly that's there for some reason

You're assuming quite a lot about me from this? All I'm saying is that bitcoin is a complete failure of a currency because it encourages holding onto it (bitcoiners like to call this "saving") instead of spending it, which is pretty much the opposite of what money is actually for, is what i'm saying

they liked this thinking i wasn't making fun of them, which says a lot about reading comprehension

it's not quite a suggestion to use rust so much as "there's a better way than relying on undefined behavior", though actually C++ also has a way to do that too (bit_cast)
November 19, 2025 at 9:14 AM
I've been working in C++ professionally for years and hobby years before that. With that in mind,

i had to look this up because i've genuinely never been in a situation where I'd want to copy a subclass to a superclass. actually i'm very rarely in a situation where i want inheritance at all. in fact, let's stop thinking about inheritance

apparently my first name is unknown and i'm an intensely private person with no background besides dwarf fortress, which is fascinating stuff

I think it's kinda iffy because it smacks of early '90s "girl power" which just consists of "look she does Man Things and is Rough and Had A Lot Of Brothers Growing Up", but also it'd be nice to have some stone cold women who aren't thus depicted as Freaks For Not Being Motherly, which is bad

yu-gi-oh set a deck size limit because someone came to a tournament with a deck of several hundred cards and included as many searching cards as possible in it

Like, I hear that and I go "oh, tutorial NPC, got it", not "oh no, a guy who will keep talking to me forever and ever without pause"
November 15, 2025 at 6:11 AM
I'm not entirely sure why everyone's taliking like this guy is going to be a consistent part of the game, or even that NPCs in general are going to be "helper NPCs" at all? There's just no reason to extrapolate all that from "there's a guy who gives guidance in the first hour of the game".

are we really confused by the concept of a tutorial npc in 2025

the term was not appropriated, the technologies leading up to LLMs have been called "AI" for well over 30 years beforehand, it's a historical quirk, not a marketing gimmick
