And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

The ones who show up are a delight, but the vast majority are totally checked out. It’s a small comfort to hear other profs are having the same issues and it’s not specifically a failing on my part — but that comfort is quickly replaced by despair at the current scarcity of curiosity.

Infections in Canada this week are expected to result in 3,800 hospitalizations, 700 deaths (people who die at least 1 year earlier than they would without COVID) and 25,000 new long COVID cases serious enough to limit daily life activities.
