i think it is very distressing that the 'median voter' joke sort of represents a broader planetary trend where due to a whole host of reasons the average person simultaneously desires liberation, a better life, empathy for others, and also various kinds of regional fascism at the same time

argument always of course has rhetoric as a key part of its persuasion and doesn't just have a function of convincing but also (you could even say primarily) performance. the issue isn't that. the problem is believing you're mutually opening minds via thought and not just performing for the audience
