Very solidly constructed with interesting themes and characters. Also EXCELLENT direction. Did leave me a bit wanting for *something* though. Phenomenal theatrical directorial debut though.

73. LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL (2023)

Predictable critique of the brief but present AI slop aside, I really wish I liked this more. It has an interesting premise and decent script, but the presentation is incongruous and a lot of the visual effects are goofy as hell. Mid.

72. GINGER SNAPS (2000)

It’s not especially subtle but I think it works to its benefit. The characters are really well developed and I think its throughlines come together in a very satisfying, if very sad, way. Also the practical effects kick ass. PS2 survival horror ass movie in the best of ways.

Shikinami and Soryu are different for too many little lore reasons to get into with this character limit, I'd say. 😅

For the purposes of Jess' inspiration though, it's more or less just that from 3.0 on Shikinami is Asuka but a LOT more jaded and slightly more world-weary.
