You do realize that “I’m an illegal immigrant” has never been a defense against any crime. However, DHS saying “they’re an illegal immigrant” has absolutely been used to cover up the fact they are primarily arresting people not guilty of any crime.

Tl;dr: The best thing you can do is keep calling your Senators every single day and demanding that they vote against DHS funding bills, unless the funding bill includes significant cuts to the ICE budget + adds real oversight, not just the rules already in place.

🚨 The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.
