Supposedly it does but I am far from convinced it does.

If the fight was genuinely between removing private motor vehicle capacity for buses or for cycling we could have a debate, constructively engage. It isn't. It is all too often between folks who appear to be 'inside' TfL and TfL Buses who want no changes that rock boat, even for buses. Very weird.

Think they're doing some ace stuff there, particularly local campaigners. But doesn't seem very fair/objective given London does appear to tick all boxes Manchester doing in that pillar. Anyway, @londoncycling.bsky.social here next year if you actually want to check what's happening in this pillar?
November 20, 2025 at 12:50 PM
Gotta say, your methodology for 3rd pillar seems... problematic. Apparently, whoever filled out form for London didn't contact @londoncycling.bsky.social whereas Manchester officer contacted @walkridegm.org.uk & that's resulted in a massive score difference seemingly. No disrespect to Manchester...

In other words, council leaders, the Mayor & TfL are all currently failing Londoners on road danger reduction & that's having a huge knock-on effect on other related issues such as 'mode share'. Londoners won't get around using sustainable modes if they're slower and less safe-feeling than cars.
November 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM
You'll also miss your 'Vision Zero' road danger targets - cycling serious collisions are actually going up currently (albeit at a far slower rate than the rate of cycling is going up). You'll miss bus priority deadlines and bus speeds keep dropping despite inaction over cycling, safety etc...
November 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM
You'll never get loads of people out of cars, onto alternatives if you only ever accept current motor traffic levels as they are and fail to enable faster buses by separating them from traffic. At same time, you'll also miss your Net Zero target of 27% reduction in road km driven by 2030 by miles...

3. The result of this inaction isn't just lives lost. It's also the Mayor's bold & brave Transport Strategy targets & Net Zero 'ambition' increasingly look like bad jokes. Mode share - 80% sustainable & active modes by 2041? This is current trajectory - due to lack of bold action - flat lines...

To safer junction schemes because of minor modelled delays when buses are mixed in with private motor traffic. Yet for them, the answer that's obvious - separate the buses at the signals - never seems to be an option considered seriously. Business as usual > lives lost/ people seriously injured...
November 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Increasingly obvious & scandalous that senior TfL folks view 30 seconds modelled bus delay across a long route as more important than people's lives. But more, that they're not then bovvered to go do bold schemes that would boost bus speeds & save lives. Too often TfL Buses appear to be objecting...

2. As our blog makes clear (lcc.org.uk/news/dangero...) we are told over & over by officers & Cllrs across London that pushback on any scheme that might even theoretically impact TfL Buses is a big issue, yet there's little action on bus priority from the same parts of the organisation. It's IMO...
Dangerous Junctions 2025 update - London Cycling Campaign

Features 3 times in top 10 most dangerous cycling junctions. Yet Wandsworth's council leader refuses to meet @wandsworthcycling.bsky.social or @londoncycling.bsky.social over this & officers have nothing to say about the obvious, easy answer to this issue: LTNs/filtering either side of main road...

I put in alt text also, but major spike in cycling came in 2014 - when the congestion charge went up from £10 to £11.50 and first major cycle tracks were being worked on in central London. Absolutely mad to think that in entire time of mini-Hollands, pandemic etc. dial has really shifted only a bit.
November 18, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Even in London, old sticks haven't kept up with inflation. Despite Mayor's targets on Transport Strategy, Vision Zero, Net Zero, mode share (TfL data) remained relatively static with only cycling and particularly in central creeping up. Need major bold moves (smart road user charging, obvs) now...
November 18, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Even in London there's not enough sticks & all too often driving even stupid short distances is still quicker & easier than tube, bus, cycle etc. Hence why you can see TfL Travel In London shows private vehicle use and most other modes flatlining for over a decade (2020-2021 exluded cos pandemic)...

To be very clear, politics of hope is not & should not be confined to just Greens. In UK, we can see optimistic, progressive leadership in other parties. Even Conservatives have managed it now & then at regional & national level. Make things better, folks. We are not doomed unless we doom ourselves.
November 14, 2025 at 10:47 AM
The current Labour government & too many others are making the mistake of thinking they can buff worst edges at best off an endless negative, angry mindset fed by far-right populists & rightwing media puppets controlled by the mega-rich. There are alternatives. For starters, hope over hate. FWIW...

It is utterly obvious that these are all utterly shorthand and cardboard cutout caricatures but they also genuinely draw some of the complex and intersecting lines of English & to a lesser extent British class. It's far more about what your parents did than it is about your pay packet.
November 10, 2025 at 11:32 PM
Do a cultural or at desk creative or skilled job? You're cultural middle class. My parents were dirt poor refugees in one sense but a professor and a linguist in other senses. My dad knew painters and writers. We didn't have cash but we had cultural capital. Cultural middle class. Hopefully...

Are technical middle class. Perry does a brilliant section on technical Vs cultural middle class in the show. All brand new everything? Brand names on your chest? Big SUV? Technical middle class.
2b. Cultural middle class. Bookshelves and art on walls? Second or more generation middle class?...
