There are so many damn dams across New England that have defined settlement patterns in the area for centuries and many many of them are going to go away and I don’t think there is nearly enough work being done just on a basic documentation front.

Day 13 10 minute map

I did briefly think about mapping 10 minutes, (10') but this was just much quicker 😀

Also, SO MANY DAMS! I knew there were a lot but goodness.

apparently there is encouraging results in perennial rice crops, which is cool. I guess the big question I would (genuinely) love to see answered in an article like this is why 12000 years of human agriculture has favored annual cereals, and what it is that we can do differently now.

I think what is currently the parking lot is a separate parcel slated for development but I don’t know what is proposed for there or how likely it is to get built

I also think a lot of the time someone says “why did they add that wiggly stuff—just to make it look good in plan?” the answer is actually revealed by…not looking at it in plan

I think in general that there is a real dearth of people with the actual specialized knowledge to design good skateparks AND the capacity to produce documents acceptable for public bid

Looking at some drawings looks like parking lot is a separate parcel theoretically slated to be like an amenity space or band shell or something

Right I guess I wonder whether the secret reason to push for an in lieu fee option is not because the street tree permitting process is so burdensome, but because developers would rather have access to the street frontage for garage entrances

What are the current constraints around adding garage entrances/curb cuts in SF? Part of me wonders if this is a bigger deal for developers that permitting is.

I am sympathetic to the plight of the friendless but we’ve seen what happens when you give them access to the levers of power

The swagless are incapable of consent
