I thought the role of the courts in the US authoritarian takeover was one of the key differences (in a positive way!) between the current US situation and Germany in the 1930s. After reading the text linked here (in German - but surely automatic translation can help) this has changed somewhat. 1/

Genuinely astonishing. This represents a concerted effort to hack down an independent branch of government and subordinate it to the executive. Fixing something that ain’t broke is never a good idea.
