If you go for mass appeal, then it will be less personalised.
While I think it's generally better to make the game appealing to a larger audience, I also think it'll reduce the game essense and personal touch to it. As Sakurai once put it nicely.

'Slipperiness' is a funny way to describe their low response time to turn around.

Not exact sure, but pretty sure that was made to make jumping over them actually possible, and not that they camp and wavedash around wherever you're landing.

I like to make them difficult, but still fair

The wolves are also the only animal enemies you fight too.
I didn't like the idea that Samantha goes off hurting animals to save a single one, so most of the enemies are plants and insects

The wolves also aren't aggressive by nature, She would be reluctant to fight them if there was another way

The map board there was an artifact of the time before HertenHeld had a proper map. this was then the only form of a map you had.

Even though it's no longer needed, I still think it still has it's charm.
(And it's helpful to people who didn't knew there was a map button)
