🏡 Our main aim was to explore the ecological values of gardens and gardening practices, identifying characteristics that might contribute to building high biodiversity. 🐞🌿 🦋
The project was conducted in ten languages and implemented across nine countries in Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe.

🚨 Study by Keck, F., Peller, T., Alther, R. et al. reveals the negative impact of human activity on Earth's biodiversity across all species and ecosystems.📉🧪

Human activities drive biodiversity loss both directly and indirectly.🌍

The global human impact on biodiversity - Nature
Key measures of biodiversity were quantified and found to be affected by human pressures that shifted community composition and decreased local diversity across terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems.

Look, I know for many of us it’s a struggle just to face every day & deal with our own personal worlds. But every individual choice has a larger, longer impact. If you think paying attention to global ecosystem collapse is a luxury academic exercise, you’re wrong. This is our future.

🌍 Nature is declining faster than ever. Since 1700:

🔹 Wetlands: -85% 🌊

🔹 Coral Reefs: -50% 🪸

🔹 Forests: -32% 🌳

🔹 Ecosystems: -47% overall

Now this is exciting.

Antonin and his team have just published a study showing that the number of migrating hoverflies through Czechia are positively correlated with the numbers of birds!
Suggests that the birds are using the flies as fuel on migration.
