It’s also weird because there’s been research for like 30 years showing that cultural elites and those with more education tend to be more omnivorous with consumption practices. So the meaningful markers of different consumption practices doesn’t match up entirely with economic class

I guess the idea is that 25 year olds don’t know “how politics work” and how to “get shit done” and my response to that would be what about our current situation in 2025 indicates that 80 year old democrats in congress for 30 years know how to “get shit done”?

And obviously we get into racialization and the racial order in relation to this. So I don’t know if creating a new term for bio vs social racial categories would work, for many reasons

In my intro to sociology class I ask students about this. I think it’s partly bio/social divide we have with sex and gender. Race, though a shallow bio construct, conflates bio and social aspects. The result is there’s less room to play with racial identity vs gender
