She looks around the room and sees these happy families sharing their meals and company. She knows that her family will never experience this innocent type of
moment again. Beyond that, people somehow still manage to have lives and moments of normality amidst the inhumanity of the regime.

There is a moment in the film that is striking in its simplicity and horror. The mother and children go to a cafe and are sharing a meal. Eunice has not yet told the children that she has been informed that her husband is now dead.
