@analog-ashley.bsky.social @grimalkina.bsky.social FFS. I'm angry with how my institution is diving headlong into GenAI. I whisper the word "dissent" to trusted colleauges. After your Andor episode, I feel an obligation, even a responsibility, to use the trust and access granted me to speak up.

Thought-provoking and hard-hitting column by @shawpsych.bsky.social about Gen AI in #HigherEd. I particularly like this point using LLMs to get your work done faster 🔥

Ooh ooh, can I play, too? The Goldeyes are our American Association team here in Winnipeg. That’s an independent league with no affiliations to MLB teams. There’s been a goldeye fishery in Manitoba for 100+ years and the logo neatly incorporates the gold-eyed fish into the Capital G.

Done! Can't wait to read it 😁

Me: Oh c’mon, who piled all this stuff right inside the office door where you can trip on it 🤬

Also me: Oh, wow, look how the boxes *perfectly* align with the cabinet 😍. Yeah, ok, if you gotta store these boxes somewhere, this is the right place

My reno goal is to restore the original mouldings that have been slowly stripped out of my 1923 house. In practice, that means a shit ton of mouldings. All this is for my 8’ x 6’ bathroom! 2-part baseboard, 2-part window and door casing, crown, and shoe adds up to a lotta sticks. #ThisOldHouse

There really is something nice about coffee breaks during a work from home day 😌

Nothing makes Mother’s Day more special than 100-year-old plaster and dust, right?!?

I went to the dentist for the first time in like 5 yrs yesterday. Visit was surprisingly, um, not traumatic. But I won’t submit the feedback form because look at this Likert, totally wrong scale. “Do you like our survey? Not at all likely” “Will you submit our survey? Ditto” 😉

"Protecting Zebras" reminds me of the "Pac-Man Rule" for fostering welcome and inclusion at conferences:

When you're speaking with friends and colleagues, leave an opening for someon else to join the conversation.

I can't remember where I learned about it. I've def used it at conferences 🙂

It was +7 and sunny on Tuesday. The geese had returned and were settling into their waterfront condos. Then this happened. C’mon, winter, read the room and GTF outta here 😂

Sunrise 😌

This is my fav spot on my daily commute, midspan on the rail/foot-bridge over the Assiniboine River. For a moment, you stop, listen to the birds and gurgling river below, and forget you’re in the middle of the city.

Are you on Instagram? Here’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard about car / sea sickness, from Hannah Fry (fryrsquared)

Attending a conference in a circle room. Ceiling is finished with hanging planks, different orientation in each quarter. My math - engineering - carpentry brain asks, how would I determine the lengths of each plank? Measure from 1:1 or scale model? Trigonometry? Pythagorus?

I love me a good card sort! My last one was in a workshop about learning outcomes. I gave ‘em 2 stacks of cards: all the levels in Bloom’s various taxonomies and a big stack o’ verbs. “Match ‘em up! Is <verb> cognitive? Affective? At what level, low-order or high-order? Argue if necessary”
