@whistberry.bsky.social Quite a few years ago I lived in the Conejo Valley in SoCal. Conejo is Spanish for rabbit. I stopped & got this photo while this guy tried to get one of them off the street. You had mentioned #vultures which made me think of the photo & I'm glad I found it. #birds #buzzard

We usually think of #snails as benign creatures, but this one is not. It’s the carnivorous Rosy Wolf Snail. I almost stepped on it, thinking it was a dried out leaf. They are an invasive species in Florida and eat everything in their path, including other snails.

We visited this deep space tracking center in the 90s, now called the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex. It has the largest satellite dishes I’ve ever seen. Its DSS-43 antenna is the only antenna on Earth that can send commands to Voyager 1 & Voyager 2. [per Wiki]

Visited Australia in the early 90s. Spent a week on the island state of Tasmania. I haven't found my photos yet but did find a few souvenirs including this postcard. I love what it says in the box where you'd put a stamp. Also, #7, Native Cat is aka Tiger Quoll.

In the 90s we were in Normandy & saw the Bayeux Tapestry when it was still in the church. It was one of the more amazing historical sights I've seen. I understand it will be in England next year. Go see it if you get the chance. #BayeuxTapestry

Few things survive the #unbearable heat as well as #cactus. The saguaro are my favorite. They pepper the terrain in so many Westerns that it’s hard to not expect to see them. They’re so tough that I could see them surviving anything, even a nuclear war.

Did you see the article about an orange nurse shark with white eyes? If that’s not #preternatural I don’t know what is. It was spotted off the coast of Costa Rico in 2024.

This is a photo I've been looking for & just found it today. He's what I call a buzzard & stood about 5 ft high, which made him almost eye to eye with me. He'd been trying to get a roadkill rabbit out of the street & took no notice of me. This was in Thousand Oaks, CA, circa 2005. #buzzard #birds

Speaking of #aprons, picked this up at One Shubert Alley after seeing the musical. Wore it on Halloween & carried a large plastic butcher’s knife with red paint on it. Little kids wouldn’t come near me for their treat so I had to stop wearing it. I still use it but not for Halloween.
