Now that you mention it, this is another reason I don't understand the widespread uptake of home delivery.

Like I'm supposed to just... know what I want? Without prompts? Without tradeoffs like, "is it worth walking another 3 blocks?"
I could starve to death that way.

Loved this back when it came out. Can't claim to remember it much now, but I know I liked it.

I'm prolly the most vanilla guy anyone's ever met but I'd still rather go to Ass World over Disneyland
February 5, 2026 at 7:25 PM
side point: I'm pleased to realise I can't actually remember Instapundit Guy's real name.
February 5, 2026 at 6:48 PM
I'm not sure about this... I take your point, but I think there were some who became prominent because they were *good* at justifying being pro war? Like, would anyone have ever heard of the Instapundit guy if he weren't a war cheerleader?

I just know whatever these two habits are, they're gonna be fun things that I like.

It's a pity that Dyson himself is a tremendous PencilDic who does not deserve to be enriched by our consumer choices

Imagine how it creeps up on you when you add ADHD.

Sullivan is a great example of how one can be a good writer and bad thinker at the same time.
February 5, 2026 at 5:12 PM
And yeah, it was a tremendous relief to read a nominally conservative voice object to torture when the rest were trying to normalise it.
February 5, 2026 at 5:08 PM
This is a good example of how real life differs from online discourse. People are complicated, smart people believe stupid things, etc. This is normal and okay.
On balance, I really dislike Sullivan, but when I was newly out of the closet, some of his writing was good for me, & I'm fine with that.

I grew up in the sprawly, cultureless suburbs of FL and later in life wound up in big walkable cities, and the novel delight of "I can just walk out of my house for 5-10 minutes and have 20 food options!?" never wore off.
And also, I can cook.
So the entire food-delivery "disruption" just missed me.
February 5, 2026 at 4:53 PM
Being in higher ed, I interact with a lot of younger people, and the apparently widespread loss of quite basic cooking skills breaks my heart.

My crazy mother fucked me up in a lot of ways, but bless that woman for teaching me how to cook.

Same; forgot all about him, and it was nice.
February 5, 2026 at 4:23 PM
what a pointlessly douchey comment

lol
February 5, 2026 at 3:46 PM
Seriously. This is how you know it's all just personal to them, nothing but feelings, because they are all developmentally stunted cretins.

why does Forbes think anybody wants to know Sam Altman's takes
February 5, 2026 at 12:27 PM
use a little extra fish sauce, for instance
February 5, 2026 at 12:09 PM
exactly. there's a lot of ways to cope with no-salt-in-the-house.
February 5, 2026 at 12:09 PM
(chuckling ruefully, remembering the first time I cooked with fish sauce...)
February 5, 2026 at 12:05 PM
I would rather be out of salt than out of chili flakes

The destruction of knowledge systems (like this, the attacks on NIH, the CDC, universities, etc.) is not the most obvious sign of this admin's depravity, but it is the deepest. They're acts of deliberate harm against whole populations of people, many of whom haven't been born yet.
February 5, 2026 at 11:05 AM
And it shouldn't be surprising in the least? He spent his life in NYC and loved celebrity and proximity to the entertainment industry. AND, he's always been a moron with no ideas of his own, so of course he would be influenced by the politics of the people around him that he wanted to impress.
