I have a GoFundMe to help me get my tuition paid for this semester. I'm at the point in my PhD where tuition is out of pocket, including health insurance. I'm really trying to make it so this is my last year, but that only happens if I can work less at the second job. Help please! #academicsky

Just applied for a position that would be at least 3 years. All the positive energy toward this would be so welcome. I would love to get this position. It would be so nice to be part of a campus community again instead of just dropping in to teach. #AcademicSky #PhDsky

I miss when Instagram was just about pictures. Why can't we have one social media app for pictures and another for videos and another for text? Why do we have to have them all together on one app? I like them separate.

I just want to cancel class tomorrow. And I finally figured out why. I worked an extra 8 hours last week at my grocery job. And I found out I'm not teaching one set of courses next semester from my teaching job. I am so happy I have Wednesday off. #AcademicSky #ADHD #stressed #tired #PhDsky

🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆 Just as I'm making headway on the dissertation I take a blow on the teaching side. Evidently, they don't need me to teach ASL in the spring. That's 2 courses! Now I have to go to my other job and see if they'll give me more hours starting in January. I need better employment. #AcademicSky

Just finished going through chapter 4 feedback. Definitely the best feedback so far. I think I can have it revised before Thanksgiving. Considering I felt most confident writing this chapter and it's about metaculture (the central theory), it's definitely an ego boost. #PhDsky #AcademicSky #relief

Alice gave me a space to talk about disability when I was a junior scholar just kicking around ideas on twitter. She’s always been an inspiration and a force for good.

The world is lessened by her passing.
bringing this statement over from Alice’s Twitter. it appears the below was Alice’s last post before passing. I am heartbroken

This is one of the most recent things Alice did. It was, as ever, a clear, trenchant, messy, and powerful exploration of not just her own experiences but also society's expectations around disability.

A new state-by-state evaluation of the projected energy and water use of "AI" data centers in the US. Looks… real bad. Like, "undoing tech sector climate gains" bad.

Strongly recommends immediately ensuring any & all new "AI" data centers to run on existing & expanded renewables grids. Which… yeah.

Just finished cleaning up a #dissertation chapter's language. I cut 1301 words, making it more concise!! I even added information at points! That's just over 2 pages!! Ha!! #AcademicSky #PhDsky

I've been going through chapter 3, cleaning up the language, and I've found a way to boost my dopamine in the process. Once I finish a section, I compare the word count to the previous draft. Seeing the number go down is such a boost! Such a nice and easy #ADHD hack! #AcademicSky #PhDsky

I just finished going over my chair's feedback on chapter 3 of the dissertation. I only need to come back to two comments. The rest was easily addressed.
I was expecting more changes. It's over 12,000 words. And it's the music chapter. He's an ethnomusicologist.
I think I got it right! #PhDsky

I think I've figured out my block. And what my chair's been trying to tell me. Part of why Hamilton is so globally popular is that it does avoid some of the big, hard truths about that time and those people. I've been setting those critiques aside, but I think I need to bring them in. Damn it.

I'm stuck. I want to work on my dissertation, but I just can't muster the ability to actually do it.
I think it's because Ch. 2 needs a big restructuring and I'm worried about getting it done well. I'm also fighting the urge to start over.
I did work on it today. Maybe I should be happy with that.

Shaken confidence

I've managed to figure out what chapter 2 is, which is giving the whole thing much better structure!

I am stuck. I read over my chair's feedback on chapter 2 and I don't know where to go with it. He made a good point that I do want to bring into the chapter, but I don't know how much he wants me to try to go in that direction in the time I have. I've e-mailed him asking about it, but I…
