This is just what I saw on weather.com for tomorrow. I'm right on the edge of the Illinois/Wisconsin/Iowa corner, so I think it's going to largely miss me.

Thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, are possible across the Southeast in the areas shaded in darkest green above. Snow in the Northern Plains: Wind-driven snow from Winter Storm Alston is expected in the Northern Plains from parts of the Dakotas into northern Minnesota, where winter storm and blizzard warnings are in effect. . This could lead to challenging travel on Interstate 94 northwest of the Twin Cities into North Dakota and Interstate 29 in North Dakota and northeast South Dakota. It might not be much tomorrow, depending, but better safe than sorry. Up here it looks like the worst of it will be this weekend, when it's a 90% chance of snow on Saturday with temps as low as 1 F/-17 C. I think y'all out east are going to get it worse now, Joanne.

This explains so much about why I really never loved this time of year. A little merriment as a break from the winter dark in like January or February would be great, but what we've got now (the Nov/Thanksgiving through end of December Christmas/NYE mess in the US) is just awful.
