Lovely launch last night with spectacular cake provided by Leah Dodd. Contributors include grads Sarah Scott, Stacey Teague, Alison Glenny and Chris Tse (who all read their work yesterday), and Carrie Rudzinski (MA25). A big, happy crowd - poetry is in good heart in Pōneke.

So ... the government just forced us all to have referendums on *existing* Māori wards because Local Communities Deserve Choice, but now they're unilaterally abolishing our regional councils because they don't like the Choices we made?

Yesterday I was in Te Awe Library. This place and the people who work there are doing incredibly important work filling the gaps in social need left by central government cuts. Above and beyond what you might considered traditional 'library' work. This report is heartbreaking & shortsighted.

I read a lot of very good new books this year, and if I had to pick one, it'd be Donald Niedekker's Strange and Perfect Account from the Permafrost wapo.st/48hti5c
Review | In this inventive novel, a long-dead poet narrates from beneath Arctic ice
Donald Niedekker’s “Strange and Perfect Account From the Permafrost” offers an ambitious view of human history and is full of sly jokes and imaginative surprises.

This literally means that if a trans person requires GnRH blockers for cancer treatment (i.e breast or prostate), they CANNOT get cancer treatment.

Insane. Absolutely insane - and deadly.
No matter what the politicians say, this is discrimination. Look at how the regulation is worded: This is not a ban on its use for a particular indication, it's a ban for a population.

That every comment in this article is supportive of trans kids right to access puberty blockers tells you everything you need to know. In the medical community, this isn’t even a debate. No one thinks a ban is right.

I always find it cute everytime I write to a politician and their auto-reply has a special line in case you're inviting them to an event. It feels like, 'Oh sorry. No time for human rights but, hey, if there's a party we'll get back to you asap.'
