I'm crying both happy and angry tears right now. I'm happy the student had good experiences in my lab course and is glad to be in another class I'm teaching. I'm angry that having a professor treat a student like a human being is considered remarkable.

On the day of the final exam in Bio 1 Lab, I was unfortunately late due to a really rough morning. I'd practiced in-class, was first to the practice session beforehand, but on exam day my truck wouldn't start, got in a fender bender in the rain, and was just having an overall awful day.
When I arrived, you didn't ask for an explanation, you just acknowledged that it looked like I had a rough day and you even offered extra time. Thankfully I was able to complete the exam within the allotted time!
