Books, books, books!
Please buy books that are coming out this year.

Doesn’t have to be mine. But there is a stellar release calendar this year especially of Black writers and it would be a shame if one of the fascist victories was people not buying those books (from the indies that are in the fight with us). #BookSky

During this president's first term I found a website that had "modern" protest songs). Sadly I can't find that site now, but this needs to go it it!
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

We remember and know why.
It was also something that lead to January 6th and the emboldening of certain groups.

Ooohh! My hatred of AI and love of discovering new (to me) old music are combining powers!

Say it again and again.
At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Two, started third today BUT you'll get zero judgment from me on how much you're reading right now.
Also zero judgment on what or how you're reading.
How many books have YOU read this year so far?

I have read none

Great question that I don't have an answer for.

(Insert the "people don't really talk like that anymore" scene from "National Treasure" here.)
Question for the theory heads-

How do you reconcile the fact that about 50% of Americans read at a 6th grade level or lower

With the idea that reading aka reading marx is what will save us?

🎉 Baby Tuskegee 2.0 is CANCELLED

This unethical U.S.-funded Hep B study in Africa is cancelled.

Our outrage worked. SPEAKING UP MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

Now let’s put the funding to good use: vaccinate every baby there at birth and actually save lives. 💉👶

Beyond unethical.
Embarrassing and horrible.

Agree!
Plus, you can always go back to one you started if you want. I typically read 2-3 at a time so I have a variety to pick up depending on my mood.
I will not stop reading new books while neglecting to finish the ones I started

Gosh...I just can't believe she was right (sarcasm).

When will our country start listening to women?

I talk about this often. The reality is there are a lot of upper-middle and upper class people who don't live in the real world either which is also part of the problem.
Too many people need to get out of their own house, neighborhood, and city once in a while.
Idk, I like it when people in power making decisions live in the same reality. Our government needs a reality check.

It sucks to have to do, but it's important we keep it up.
As a public employee I either use my lunch and leave the property or wait until I'm home, which also sucks b/c I pretty much only ever get to leave a voicemail.
I often talk to folks who never call or write the people they voted for. Just because you helped vote someone into an office doesn't mean they represent you. It means you agreed with them enough to vote for them. But, they have no idea if they agree with you, unless you tell them what you think.

"Gosh you've been quiet lately."
Well....looks around and points at the world.

Also, I was working on transferring/updating everything from other book tracking apps/websites to @thestorygraph.com.

If this is the 14th best, I can't wait to see the rest of the list!
14. Tego Calderón, Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, & Ivy Queen are pioneers of what music style, built around the "dembow" & emerging in Puerto Rico fusing Jamaican dancehall, hip hop, Panama reggae en español, & other Latin Caribbean sounds?

Why didn't anyone tell me there was a TB book club!?!??!
Serendipitously I recently started reading this book!
A recurring theme we see in The Black Angels is nurses, especially black nurses, not being allowed to speak their minds, even when it was in the best interest of their patients. #TBReaders

Just a reminder to get & use your library card! Even if you are "only" using it for ebooks, audio books, newspapers, magazines, and streaming services. It all counts as use of and for your library!

Teachers, child care, and nurses are crucial for developing good humans. Before I came to public health I taught & was a child care worker, & I will argue those are the most under-appreciated professionals.
Not to mention the erasure of fields long considered "women's work" that is tied into this.
The amount someone earns after completing a professional degree does not accurately portray its total value in our society.

If it was a true reflection of social worth then educators, nurses, and librarians would be paid high six figures.
