Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?

It’s all idolatry. All of it.

I used to wonder how people could could have been entertained by kicking a tin can or rolling a hoop with a stick down the road - but this morning, I watched my own children take an extra 10 minutes to simply walk to school because of a game they made up with a rock.

I get it now.

As a Kansan (for almost three years), part of my support for the people of Minnesota is this:

Even though I grew up in Virginia, I learned by heart - at a rather impressionable age - that territory folks should stick together. We’re pals.

If what we are trying to accomplish requires cruelty, perhaps we need to take a look at what we are trying to accomplish.

if these guys actually spent any time around the families, churches and schools they say they love so much, they’d know sophisticated organizing doesn’t actually require billionaire donors and military hierarchies. organic movements are light work for moms, clergy, teachers and nonprofit activists.
MAGA military geniuses are talking about Minnesota protestors like they are the Iraqi insurgency, the Taliban, and the Viet Cong all rolled into one.

In trying to navigate through the current national conversation about what’s going on with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) , I thought taking a look at the data from their own website would be helpful. Scroll to the bottom to find the Excel sheets: www.ice.gov/detain/deten...

We’re gonna make it… too many clergy grew up with the extraordinary witness of the blessed Friar Tuck.
two cartoon characters are standing in front of a door and one of them is saying out out out
Alt: A scene from Disney’s cartoon “Robin Hood” in which Friar tuck pushes the evil sheriff of Nottingham out of the church by his belly. Friar tuck is shouting “Out! Out! Out!”

Absolutely wild that I haven’t heard a peep from the “history, heritage, legacy” crowd who rallied and killed to keep Confederate monuments standing.

Surely their passion for “historical conservation” wasn’t conditional on whether the history in question upheld or challenged white supremacy.

There are no sudden events. For example, with UTR, there were committed racists with deep networks (Spencer) along with flash-in-the-pan attention hogs like Kessler, with a growing national trend towards overt racism that was being consciously stoked for over 50 years.
I need everyone to understand that this could not happen anywhere else exclusively because the people of minnesota started showing up for george floyd and then never stopped

this isn't a "sudden event", this is the culmination of nearly seven fucking years of steady leadership and participation
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

After the first torch-lit rally in 2017, the Charlottesville community responded by gathering (w/candles) around a big banner that covered the statue. It read "Fuck White Supremacy!"

I too was initially concerned until I realized that this was the only faithful response to such evil.

Fuck ICE.

As a pastor who leads worship every Sunday, I fully endorse disrupting any & all church services/events/activities where evil, injustice, and/or oppression are preached, practiced, or tolerated.

Scripture repeatedly supports this as well, and I’m happy to provide receipts upon request.

You love to see it.
Today, Kansas City took action to protect our community’s priorities. A five-year moratorium on mass detention facilities ensures our focus stays on building businesses, homes, and schools, not large-scale detention centers.

In ministry, we are taught early that authority without accountability is a danger to the people we serve. Clergy ethics exist for a reason. Trust is not sustained by unchecked authority, but by leadership that willingly submits itself to oversight and transparency.
