This is why you should never provide government issue photo ID for access to a social media app.

It's not a matter of "if" they get hacked, it's a matter of when

I'm watching Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" series and it does seem a bit reminiscent of Tanith Lee's "Flat Earth" series, only set in a modern era.

I suspect her books were an influence on him.

Brilliant
I had a professor of Jewish Studies at UChicago who made the administration very angry because every year he made a proposal for the university to create an on-campus memorial to the worldwide victims of the UChicago economics department.

you know you're an internet elder when you've got an email account (I no longer use) that's so old it was in the Myspace data breach.

Thanks so much I got some excellent suggestions from bsky portlanders and realized for a small fee my hotel does an upgrade that includes a Powell's books gift card so I am jumping on that!
what sat you, portlanders?
I'm going to be in Portland for my first time ever in a few weeks (Old Town area).

What would you say is some must do things to do if you only have a day there and you live a relatively unathletic lifestyle? :D

So if you use the ewon flexy 205 device (industrial VPN) be aware that with the latest firmware update you may have to change the following settings from default to have access to the internet when you point your adaptor gateway at the Flexy or REALLY BAD THINGS CAN HAPPEN

Every night when I feed our two cats I have to sit in a chair between them to prevent the orange menace from stealing the grey floof's food.

I feel like this task would be less tiresome if I had some cool D&D adventurer's title to go with it.

Pretty sure whoever made this thinks that we all spend to much money on nickel root beer floats and phosphate sodas at the local Soda Fountain

A message from a major supplier of manufacturing technology.

Thanks to these tariffs, you can expect to see increases in prices to among other things your utilities since your utility providers will have no choice but to pass on these additional costs to you, the consumer.

Reports claim chatbots decrease customer support workload, but I've never experienced one being useful.

All they do for me is increase the amount of time I spend on a call by at least 2-10 minutes before I'm disconnected or manage to get a human being.

I'm wondering if this is true for others.

If you've never used one these industrial VPNs are great little devices

One positive with the new Administration is (so far) it looks like this new administration isn't pushing to change course on CFPB/ NCUA attacks on Bank/ Credit Union fee income.

This means we shouldn't see a return to the bad old days of high penalty fees by banks targeting (especially poor)people.

Disturbing trend I see in my line of work is tens of millions of dollars in value contracts where the SCADA/ Cyber section is perhaps 1/20th of the value of the total contract yet the owner/ prime will insist it's too expensive and corners must be cut.

This is the result of such attitudes.
Chinese hackers (actually, cyber operators) gained control to shut down U.S. ports, power grids, and other critical infrastructure. Intrusions were severe, with key details lost permanently due to erased logs and inadequate tracking. www.wsj.com/tech/cyberse...

My favorite "getting carded at the club" moment is when recently the 20 something bouncer asked to see my wife's I.D. and she indignantly said; "What?! Young man I will send you to your room!" and this huge tough bouncer responded with chagrined "sorry ma'am it's the law"

From just a straight "businessman's perspective", this means if you are trying to grow your business (blog, newssite, etsy store, etc) then Twitter X is a dead end for you, a waste of time and resources.

This is a key factor that will in the end kill sites like X that practices this strategy
