"Love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night."
Irish journalist based in Stockholm, covering the world.
A major part of journalism is verifying things (even stuff we think we know), so I did a little experiment last night and asked ChatGPT a question about the last time an event happened - it answered quickly, and was wrong by about eight years ...

I wrote this on Oct 30, and virtually everything that has happened since (such as Martin's comments in the Examiner article below) has proved me right.

Lovely delivery from my good friends at @kennysbookshop.bsky.social arrived today that'll keep me entertained for the first couple of weeks of the dark Swedish winter - until the Christmas order comes ... :)

The reason Trump is now saying he wants to #ReleaseTheEpsteinFiles is because he thinks that, no matter what evidence there is of his paedophilia, Republicans won't act against him, and he's right.
He's been found to be a rapist in a civil court, and they still re-elected him president. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But most of all I'm so grateful to Buddy; the first time we met 26 years ago he told me about having to beg on the streets of Dublin for food as a teenager; the story of his childhood is horrendous, but how he became so warm, loving and kind, as well as a father and grandfather is the so inspiring.

At the end, I noted that Sweden's government (propped up by the neo-Nazis of SD) is preparing to reduce the age of criminal responsibility to 13, meaning children could be jailed in future.
I made the point that Ireland's Goldenbridges are hopefully behind it - Sweden's might only be beginning.

An honour to host a showing of "Small Things Like This" in Stockholm tonight, and to interview Irishman and Sweden resident Buddy Money afterwards.
Buddy spent six horrific years in Goldenbridge, and I asked him if he ever feel love or warmth in that time.
"Not once," he said.

Starka grejer.
Skicka DM om du vill komma.

BTW, for those keeping score, I predicted this last week.
For more than 20 years, I've been covering how mainstream politics reacts to the far right, and I can tell you that unless you act, it's going to get much, much worse in Ireland.

After presidential fiasco, Fine Gael and Harris choose hate over hope - why the Irish right pivoting to overt racism is as predictable as it is wrong, and what the left (and in particular Sinn Féin) has to do to avoid making the same mistake.

Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in the history of the state.
This kind of analysis is neither serious nor credible, and it has to stop.

Sum up #Aras25 media coverage in one pic.
October 27, 2025 at 9:12 PM
On the Irish Times site this morning, there is one article about #Aras25 in general, one about FF's failure, one each about a non-runner and spolied votes, and only one about the winner, while Sheehan uses his Indo piece for snide score-settling.
How can this coverage be taken seriously? #speirgorm

Connolly’s landslide buries political myths about Ireland’s presidential process - how the establishment's attempts to explain #Aras25 are fatally flawed from the outset, and who really matters in the aftermath.
