I remade Ruin Masters' hexmap of Caldarox using ripped images from the rulebook PDF. No reference for scale so this is my best guess at 6-mile hexes. Gonna play a solo game and see what fun stuff falls out of the (many) random tables the game provides.

More generally, I just think post-human sci-fi with a strong mythological + exclusion zone bent is a really fun playground to mess around in. It's my comfort food.

I also love Nihei's early work's focus on post-human characters. Maybe you're a sad android. Maybe you can interface directly with structure-wide networks. Maybe you're a bear with a DMR.

BLAME! By Tsutomu Nihei is another predictable touchstone. (fun fact, its alternate title was originally The Adventure-seeker Killy in the Cyber Dungeon Quest!). Love an incomprehensibly large ruin populated by sad post-human creatures.

Another big influence is, of course, Andrei Tarkovsky's seminal film, Stalker - a film where three protagonists explore a series of ruins an abandoned place, weird and overgrown with the passage of time.

There's tons of far future weird fantastical sci-fi RPGs out there. Many of them are rad. A lot of them go for a very colourful, pulpy, psychedelic aesthetic, which is great, but not entirely what I'm after.
