“We’ve seen outstanding results, such as the Elizabeth line, where passenger numbers have outpaced forecasts & continued to grow; the Dartmoor Line where passenger demand was 50% higher than projected; & the Northumberland Line, where the annual forecast was exceeded within the first 3 months” 👏👏👏
New line passenger forecasts 'should be based on previous successes'
Campaign for Better Transport says forecasts should better reflect the success of routes such as the Elizabeth, Dartmoor and Northumberland lines.

NEW: Our DEFRA FOI reveals the budget for local councils to tackle #AirPollution has gone from £225 million a year to just £1.5 million in the last five years.

Cutting air pollution budgets by 99% at a time when children are still breathing illegal & toxic levels of dirty air is indefensible.
Funding for air pollution cut 99%, campaigners raise alarm
Mums for Lungs warned the cuts will significantly delay efforts to reduce emissions to levels recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). New research from the parent campaign group shows fund...

💥 Recently in the Guardian:

“If, as seems likely, the results of the next general election are more unfair than ever before (...) then the case for proportional representation may finally become irresistible.”

The faults of First Past the Post are becoming impossible to ignore.

It's time for PR.

On one hand, no more safe seats or long careers could mean less complacency. On the other, no big parties could mean greater corporate influence, says Guardian columnist Andy Beckett

Yet another evidence review argues very strongly that simply providing alternatives to driving doesn't reduce driving

This isn't surprising, if only thanks to habit. If I unthinkingly jump in my car for every trip (as many do), new buses won't change that

My granddad was a refugee, my wife, our close friends and those of our kids are either immigrants or the children of immigrants.

Do ministers ever think about the message their rhetoric on "handouts" and "golden tickets" for migrants sends about whether this is a government for people like us?

PFI deals signed under Tony Blair left the NHS without enough money to treat patients, while private investors made billions in profits.

Wes Streeting's plans to bring back private finance in our NHS MUST be stopped.

It should appall absolutely everyone that millions of patients are unable to access timely healthcare in the NHS right now. It’s a national scandal and it’s been caused by direct decisions made by politicians.

Just spoken at the Roadpeace event for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The experiences of bereaved families and injured people must be heard so institutions like the Met and TfL behave with empathy and understanding of the acute trauma and violence involved in road death.
Disappointed that the Met Commissioner does not see the part that a good collision investigation plays in road traffic victims getting justice after a crash.

Such a pity that frontline NHS staff aren’t given the space in newspapers to air their thoughts, as Streeting is. The NHS is currently missing around 100,000 staff. It’s no surprise when they’re bashed continually for fighting for fair working conditions🚨
