if, on the other hand, it matters to you that these systems are basically still generating complicated statistical models of word tokens and the orders in which they tend to come out, then very little "technical" innovation these tech companies have done in the last 5 years seems worth writing about

Thanks for sharing. I struggle with the fact that even these images of destroyed environments and megalomaniacal industries can be aesthetically appealing. But unlike "AI" slop images of "AI", they at least illustrate human actions and their consequences.

Thanks for sharing this experience. One reason I posted these images yesterday is that I think it's academically reckless to disseminate distorted visions of an abstract, immaterial, and clean technology of the future. This doesn't do justice to our societal mission, and we need to address this.
