Once again thinking about what makes games fun, specifical small games. Like, how do you condense an idea down so that someone can play with it for a few minutes to an hour and will step away satisfied. What is fun? Why is fun? When is fun? I do not know.

People on the team said I was a Senior Environment Artist in title but Principal Artist at the core of it. I created every single foliage piece, every associated blueprint, tools for it, standardized the work and was in charge of final placements and vista work.

I was unemployed for 7 months, every week I would see another project cancelled or studio shut down and think “well, fuck, that’s another 6-12 producers added to the group of us looking, applying to maybe 1-3 quality jobs available” and it sucked. It doesn’t reflect any of our skills or drive.
I can't emphasize this enough: If you're struggling to find work in games, you're not the only one and please don't blame yourself. The horrible state of the industry is unprecedented. The crash in the 80s and the recession in the late 2000s weren't as rough as this. There are so few opportunities.
