Yes, that was my error. But it was over-50s last year, or the year before. I'm sure if uptake was better it would have continued being offered in that age group.

Also, the strains which are put into the vaccine are a best guess as to which strains might be most prevalent over the winter. There are so many strains and the virus mutates so often, that you might be unlucky enough to not be fully protected.

It would be better, but if it was free then uptake wouldn't be anywhere close to 30%.
If 60-70% of people who could get seriously ill from flu are saying "no thanks", how low is the uptake going to be for people who are just going to feel a bit shitty for a few days?
December 15, 2025 at 11:47 AM
And I'm willing to bet that *one* of the reasons the age was raised was poor uptake among 50-65 year olds.

Statistically? Children, old people, and anyone with long term health conditions. You shouldn't be surprised to learn that large-scale vaccination programs are organised on statistical probability, not a bespoke service for every single person. That would be ridiculously expensive.

But the people who are most likely to need hospitalisation as a result of catching it ARE eligible.
December 15, 2025 at 9:17 AM
That's not a "very small minority". That's a lot of people. It's people who are in most danger of hospitalisation if they catch flu.
The issue is that only 30-40% of those people take up the opportunity and get vaccinated.

Children aged 2-7, pregnant women, over-65s, anyone with conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart/kidney/liver disease, weakened immunity, or BMI over 40. Carers for older or disabled people. People who live in care homes.

Ah. Thanks. I knew it was older than me!

No. I said it wasn't.

Careful Graham, just because she's got big tits doesn't mean she's definitely a 'real' woman. This could be a trap!

It is offered to children and the over 60s, plus anyone with serious health conditions, in the autumn. I qualified because of type 2 diabetes.
The problem isn't that it wasn't offered. The problem is that only 30-40% of those offered actually get jabbed.
December 15, 2025 at 12:22 AM
It is. People who are eligible for free vaccinations are contacted in September and jabbed in October.
December 15, 2025 at 12:19 AM
I must have imagined the free jab I got in September and all local NHS comms telling people to get vaccinated early.
December 15, 2025 at 12:18 AM
I got my jab in September or October when they were first advertised. It's not surprising that stocks are low now in peak flu season.

Nothing says "I'm a sensible person with reasonable opinions" like appearing on the Liz Truss Show!

Tomlinson is only half British. He has Irish ancestry on one side. So his argument is self-defeating. If a person needs to be able to show "British" back to all grandparents, then he should also be disqualified as a commentator/pundit.

Not a shooter, but a man using a narwhal tusk as an improvised weapon helped to disarm the perpetrator of the 2019 London Bridge stabbings.

That's what I thought. It's not a phrase I'd heard, but what it meant seemed obvious to me.

I assume that's something to do with either Jack, or Cilla?
