I have no idea how such things happen. A total mystery.

Microscopy from the brown/salmon area:

There is definetely something going on there. The salmon is much more pronounced on the photo. I can barely make it out by eye.
I will have a look if I can manage a section from this area.

Microscopy: just strangely formed thallus and parts of soralia. No lichenicolous fungus or similar.

I have a gall like growth on a (fruiting) Physcia adscendens #lichen. Has anyone ever seen something like this?
November 24, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Vezdaea leprosa #lichen - I think. At least it looks like the specimen I was shown on the last course by HB.

Today its Peltigera. I still don't like to ID them. Everything I touch keys out to be rufescens.

Spores show typical "prominent" nuclei.

Pseudombrophila hepatica (Batsch) Brumm., my second ascomycete from my recent trip to the "Vorharz". Growing on rotting grass and droppings of (a small mammal?).

Ascomycete identification is a whole new can of worms for me. This was also only possible with help from the pilzforum.eu.

Walking through late-fall high grass while the camera decided to fire a focus stack burst - processed while batch processing in Helicon focus.

Its time for frosty Cladonia again. #lichen.

Not complete until you show the inside.

And done:

I would gladly welcome any ideas - on the species but also on how to proceed.

No good matches when I(!) key out with the ascomycete project key or PDS1. However I might have gotten something wrong here.

With Cryptogamia helvetica 23 I arrive at With Cupulina monticola which does not really fit (e.g. many dispersed oil droplets). C. only has 2 accepted sp. and none match.

Tonight I am working on an ascomycete - and I am out of ideas. Maybe @ruhrpottpilze.bsky.social has some Ideas?
It is growing ephemeral on calcareous soil between small mosses (periodically flooded limestone quarry in N ger ~ 100müNHN)

Tonight microfungi are working for me 😈. Bread day.

New arrival today. Not really easy reading - hopefully useful for my developing interests. #Hyphomycetes #MycoBookClub

Konidien 1-zellig, ornamentiert etwa 13,5-14,9 x 7,3-8,9 µm. Was nimmt man hier zum bestimmen?

Cladonia sp. #lichen catching the light.

That sounds wonderful. It was only 7°C and I was obviously not moving much.

My rainwear for biking is always leaky at some spots however.

Nevertheless - the new site turned out better than expected and I had a wonderful time.
