Happy birthday to David Ortiz, who is 50.

Still can’t figure out why the Cardinals kept pitching to him in ‘13.

Pirates infielder Cam Devanney, who’s out of Central Catholic High in Lawrence, signed with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan.

The 28-year-old made his MLB debut at Fenway in August. Now he gets a chance to make a few bucks in Japan.

RIP Kevin Mackey, a Boston hoops legend. Coached Don Bosco then went to BC as an assistant in the early Big East days. Head coach at Cleveland St. and went to the Sweet 16 with Mouse McFadden. Long time NBA scout, too. Came through some tough times in his life. An original.

“They’re in a position to be very aggressive in the free-agent market because of … their younger players. So I fully expect they have a strong ‘go’ sign [for] what they’re going to do in ‘26.”

Story on Bregman, Boras, Breslow: www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/12/s...
Scott Boras makes coffee-based Alex Bregman pitch as Red Sox ‘recognize the fit’ - The Boston Globe
Could the Red Sox bring back Bregman in addition to acquiring the big bat Craig Breslow cited as a priority earlier in the week?

Garrett Crochet was 2nd and Aroldis Chapman 7th in the Cy Young voting.

This is the first time since 2017 the Red Sox had two pitchers receive votes. Chris Sale was 2nd and Craig Kimbrel 6th that season.
November 13, 2025 at 12:39 AM
Agents are under the impression the Red Sox want to add two hitters and a No. 2 starter. "We could," Breslow said, which is not "We want to."

Maybe it's a pricier addition (Bregman or Alonso) and a second, less expensive, choice.
November 13, 2025 at 12:20 AM
Scott Boras spoke positively about Alex Bregman's season in Boston, his comfort with the Sox, the city, etc. But also reiterated that his market will be different now without the qualifying offer.
November 12, 2025 at 8:30 PM
A few takeaways from Craig Breslow's session with the Boston writers:

* Said he wouldn't be surprised if one of the major needs (No. 2 starter, impact hitter) was filled via trade and the other via free agency.

* Endorsed Connor Wong as the backup catcher, nothing he played hurt much of '25.

That said, suspect they throw a few bucks at a reclamation project or two just to see if they can hit on somebody.
Also found it interesting Breslow said Sox needed a No. 2 starter but that they wouldn't spend too much time for 3, 4, 5 types. They feel like they have enough choices in house with Bello, Tolle, Early, Fitts, Dobbins, Harrison, etc.

Meaning not Giolito.

Craig Breslow on Marcelo Mayer: "He needs to get bigger and stronger and be able to shoulder the workload of a full season. That's what the conversations have centered around. And to his credit, he's committed to it."

Craig Breslow said Sox are prioritizing a power bat and a No. 2 starter. No surprise there. Praised Bregman but would not identify him as player they want, citing his preference not to list their targets.

Roman Anthony has fully healed up. Story is their shortstop.
