The formative early works focused a lot on emotional devastation, the reaction of the characters was a big focus, a lot of works now feel like they just throw it in ther to spice up a (sometimes) hardcore sex scene. They often get the energy right but they're very shallow

Maybe it didn't got any fans because it was just a 1 and done thing, the show pretty much feels like they shoved a "season 2" on the last few eps. It's also crazy k-pop demon hunters just completely overshadowed it

The original Fionna and Cake eps also had a lot of relationship drama stuff, but in a way that was trying to emulate fanworks, so that was sort of the joke + the characters were still fairly close to their og versions, now they're not but the show takes for granted you care

All the realionship drama in AT worked because we also had 100 episodes of the characters doing other things for us to care for them. But other than Fionna and Cake these are just like "we're lamer versions of the guys you know"
