I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

the fascism is mostly done being nice at this point, but it got here through well dressed men politely asking questions while the rest of us were scolded for pointing out where those questions led

32 years ago today, Brandon Teena was murdered for being trans. Though much about his life was misunderstood and misreported at the time, along with the murder of Matthew Shepard, national outrage led to improved hate crime laws.

Please help us make a world which doesn’t hate us.

uhhh yeah I can see why these childcare properties weren't eager to let in some rando dudes asking "where are the kids?"

Curtis Yarvin, JD Vance’s friend & ideological influence, ended 2025 by claiming “only Hitler spoke the truth” about “too many subjects” & “Hitler was a genius.”

Extremism isn’t fringe on the right. Once marginal online extremists like Yarvin are influential at the highest levels of government.

A little-noticed provision in the TRUMP AI Act would ban big tech platforms, including ostensibly Google, from distributing "sexual material harmful to minors" — a phrase routinely used by conservatives to ban not only porn, but sex ed, LGBTQ literature and repro rights resources.
The TRUMP AMERICA AI Act is every bit as bad as you would expect. Maybe worse.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s latest is an anti-tech omnibus, combining years' worth of dangerous policy ideas into one big, bad bill.

This should not be shrugged aside. They have stopped with the fake 22 million illegal immigrants things and are flat out saying we want to deport 10's of millions of citizens and legal residents from "third world countries" Basically they are advocating removing 1/3 of the population on a gov site.

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

5 million-plus kindergartners now live in counties where schools don’t have “herd immunity” for measles, Washington Post reporters found.

WaPo also built a tool to look up your own county.

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

It is utterly terrifying that citizen alert apps are now using wonky-ass AI to generate crime and disaster alerts that often end up being mistaken. This can and will get people killed.

Citizen Is Using AI to Generate Crime Alerts With No Human Review. It’s Making a Lot of Mistakes
Three sources described how AI is writing alerts for Citizen and broadcasting them without prior human review. In one case AI mistranslated “motor vehicle accident” to “murder vehicle accident.”

One of the saddest sentences written in the modern era of vaccines:

“We will lose our elimination status shortly.”
The U.S. has surpassed 2000 documented measles cases this year, the highest in more than 30 years.

This is driven by rampant disinformation about vaccines from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., including in his capacity as a government official.

We will lose our elimination status shortly.

Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
