Has anyone speculated on Leland being BOB's "death bag" before? I recall from a podcast (can't remember which) that some think of the "man in a smiling bag" as referring to not Jacques, but Leland/BOB. #TwinPeaks 🤔

Glad I got to visit the Hap's Diner location from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me in Fall City, WA in 2023, as it's since been demolished. Guess I'll never get to ask Irene about the specials.

AMERICAN GOTHIC also features a lot of cemeteries and I enjoyed tracking down some of the the headstones and figures featured in the opening credits and throughout the series.
I found this headstone figure, which is featured in the opening credits of AMERICAN GOTHIC, in the Bellevue Cemetery in Wilmington, NC. The young girl whose grave it marks died in 1922. I also found this headstone figure from the opening credits in the Bellevue Cemetery. The child whose grave it marks died in 1879. The headstone itself is much cleaner today, compared to its appearance in the show. This tombstone appears in the Potato Boy episode, where you can clearly read the name, Leroy Stanland. This allowed me to do an online search, which led me to the Bellevue Cemetery. I noticed later that the exact same headstone also appears in a scene from Stephen King's GOLDEN YEARS series, which was also filmed in the Wilmington area. The scene of Gail Emory visiting the gravesites of her parents in the AMERICAN GOTHIC pilot was filmed in this area of the Old Smithville Burying Ground in Southport, NC.

This set of locations features a number of the churches featured in AMERICAN GOTHIC. The town of Trinity, like Wilmington itself, has a LOT of churches!
The First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington is featured prominently in AMERICAN GOTHIC. In the establishing shot of the town, you can spot its steeple as a key landmark of the city's skyline. It's also only a block or so from Ms. Holt's boarding house, one of the show's key locations. St. Mark's Episcopal Church appears in several episodes of AMERICAN GOTHIC, most notably in the Potato Boy episode, where we learn Selena Coomb's father is the church's minister. Chestnut Street Presbyterian Church is where Gail goes to pray in the episode Triangle, and is visited by Merlyn Temple's ghost. St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilmington is shown many times in AMERICAN GOTHIC, almost always at a Dutch angle. I managed to capture much as it appears throughout the series.

The former Pender County Jail in Burgaw, NC served as the Fulton County Jail in AMERICAN GOTHIC. It is now the site of the Pender County Visitor Center, where the staff were happy to share information with us on the many TV and film productions shot in the area. The water tower that looms over the jail is featured in a memorable nighttime shot of Gary Cole as Lucas Buck in the pilot episode of AMERICAN GOTHIC. This building served as the exterior of the Fulton County Sheriff's Department in AMERICAN GOTHIC. Interiors were likely filmed on a soundstage. Many of AMERICAN GOTHIC's bar/restaurant scenes were filmed in this building near Wilmington's riverfront. In the 1990s, this was the Water Street Restaurant and featured a statue of a tiger in the doorway, which can be seen in a few shots of the series. Today, it houses Michael's on the Waterfront, where we had a few drinks and talked to the bartender about the building's history. He described it a very lively place in the 90s!

More filming locations from AMERICAN GOTHIC. Hardly any information about the show's filming locations appears anywhere online. So this was my first attempt at finding locations just from screenshots, online maps, and (not infrequently) dumb luck. I learned a lot from it!
This former school in Atkinson, NC served as the Fulton County Hospital in the pilot of AMERICAN GOTHIC. It is now an antiques auction house. A different building was used for Fulton County Hospital in the series after the pilot. This former school in Hampstead, NC is now a municipal building for Pender County. Another view of the second building to serve as the county hospital in AMERICAN GOTHIC. Elections were being held when we visited, but we didn't see any "Reelect Lucas Buck" signs. Sunset Elementary School in Wilmington served as the first Trinity Elementary School in AMERICAN GOTHIC. A different location was used for the school in later episodes.

AMERICAN GOTHIC had a lot of potential, but CBS did not understand or support the show. It got moved around on the schedule, episodes were shown out of order, and it was ultimately cancelled after only one season.

Previously, this area had appeared in the establishing shot for the fictional town of Lumberton, NC in David Lynch's BLUE VELVET. This house near Wilmington's riverfront served as Gail Emory's rental home throughout the series. This building appeared as the Trinity Guardian, the local newspaper formerly run by Gail Emory's parents. This house appeared as the home of "Potato Boy," in the episode of the same name. The house has been greatly renovated since the series, where it appeared in a dilapidated condition.

Here's a thread of some of the filming locations from the cult 90s TV series, AMERICAN GOTHIC. Wilmington, NC served as the fictional town of Trinity, SC, which was a kind of Southern version of TWIN PEAKS.

The Rankin-Walker House in Wilmington, NC served as Ms. Holt's boarding house in AMERICAN GOTHIC. Many scenes from throughout the series were filmed on the front porch of this historic home. Caleb Temple's room was in the turret of Ms. Holt's boarding house, though interiors were likely filmed on a soundstage. Friday, we learned our sweet girl Lois has a cancerous mass. Cancelled our planned trip to Pittsburgh so we can get it surgically removed this week. Don't know why I'm telling you this, I guess just because it's scary. Hug your fur babies, friends.
