Entered, but also on my TBR list at my local bookstore's website. Looking forward to this!

Just picked up a copy from my local bookstore in Bellingham, Washington (Pacific Northwest), if you're doing some geotracking. Your link helps the store source it.

All the best. Look forward to reading it. (After Xmas: it's my husband's present.)

Love Mancini's music, especially the car chase scene

They're really different from other things I've been reading. The "classic SF tone" can be understood as sounding like "golden age" fiction. Which seems like a perfect choice for books that take place at that time.

Picked up a copy of DeLillo's Falling Man at Bookmans after you mentioned him at dinner. Curious to see what you like about him and to read (way) outside my comfort zone.

Next, you're going to be reading about diplomatics! Was able to take a course on the subject from a former archivist of Rome when I moved to Bellingham! (At UBC in Vancouver.)

Picked this up based on Tom Tomorrow's post, and I'm loving it. Brilliant writing, great story telling. The audio version has a great narrator.

Bell's is the best craft book I've read. Consider Donald Maass's The Emotional Craft of Fiction.

Flying to Phoenix today. Would never have been able to make the live presentation, but underscored when Alaska canceled our flight. 😆 (Heavy fog.) Will get there later tonight, though.

So I love about ebooks, especially searching withing the text. (Now who was that character??) and ability to check the def of a word I don't know. I used to find them easier to read than print, but recently reading print in good light is the best. (And I like having print and e-book copies.)

Being a pantser, I tell my planner friends that my WIP is an 85K outline. (Heavy on the detail.) 😁

Congrats!

For his, I think it was an hour to backup the drive, then about three hours (unattended) for the upgrade.

In the past, for mine, I would have wiped the disk, done a clean install of Windows, then spent a day installing other software.

And lived to tell the tale! (I've been on 11 for a good while, but just upgraded my husband's computer Friday. Happy to say, it went without a hitch.)

This work should really have more recognition than it does; inquiries should go to:

Pages through 2024 are in the Internet Archive. Thank the stars for that resource, which can help us protect cultural amnesia.

TIL I learned that effable is a word (capable of being uttered or expressed), and effing—with that definition—gives a certain sense to Critchley's quote. But the more common slang version of effing gives it a completely different, but understandable (effable), meaning.
