Added 'William' to my name, not because I needed it, but because some folks only see 'Donald' and jump to conclusions.

In a democracy, the government's main role is - to govern.

But what happens if the formal local name for the government is 'the ruler'?

A piece I wrote a long time ago for the UBC School of Journalism.
Words matter: What language can tell us about the government - Global Reporting Centre
In Serbia, there is a deepening divide between the government and its people. Language is the first step in understanding this alienation of citizens.

Excellent thread.

Talking about the concerning trend of vulnerable road users facing more danger and discomfort isn’t alarmism, it’s about calling for the policies we know will save lives.
Justin we love you but as a chart enthusiast you're too smart to post charts with arbitrary start points and linear trendlines. Here's a couple we made, with the same data, that shows traffic fatalities are on the rise!

But onto a more serious analysis of this 🧵

This is why the #NewWest #VisionZero approach starts with how we collect, manage, and share data arising from injury- and death-causing collisions on our streets. Interagency collaboration to find causes, not to apportion blame, but to fix the structural failures that risk all our lives every day.

Is #BookSky a thing? Either way, my 7 favourite reads of 2025, in no special order:

1) Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. Yes I'm very late to the game.

What a rich and beautiful world Clarke builds. Only drawback - the last act felt a bit rushed. Still a 5-star read.
