Do we think there is enough off-peak ridership to justify a return to 5-min headways on L1? 1130 train getting busier and busier as it approaches the core. Standing room only now.

Transit Commission budget meeting Monday Nov 24.

Time to write your Councillor to demand better off-peak frequency.

That watermain is only 55 years old. Yikes! Ottawa has 813 km of water pipes that are older than this (about 21% of all pipes city wide).

Council decided to defer a few billion dollars in maintenance work in the long term financial plan. I'm afraid this is going to become more common.

Over the last 30 yrs, #OttCity has seen inner greenbelt neighbourhoods move the suburbs. Probably for more affordable housing. As Ottawa considers changes to its zoning bylaw, we should be increasing densities and housing options in these struggling areas.

Injury graph redo. The earliest collision data is from 2013 and the earliest camera installation is 2020, so I trimmed the data at -6 years relative age.

Here is a snapshot a sample of the data. I selected the collisions that were within 30 seconds of a camera location. For example, if travelling at 50 kph, you travel 415m in 30s. Only the collisions along the route were selected.

Critics of speed cameras challenge the claim that compliance lowers accidents and injuries

Below are #OttCity collisions within 30s of a camera and normalized to age of camera (-'ve = prior install)

Collisions and injuries dropped. Will they go up again?

Tx for helping

Hmm...if that's the case, should't the ask be closer to the $177-million for rail ops then?

Here is a breakdown of the draft 2026 Transit Commission Operations Budget.

Note: the "Property Taxes" on the revenue side reflects the "Net Requirement" line item in the budget.
November 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
Not only did speed cameras reduce speeding, but the revenues were reinvested in big and small street design changes (the actual problem). Ward 9 has their own examples.

This revenue source is now gone without a long term replacement.

#OttCity keeps trying the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

We're asking upper levels of government to cover an additional $47-million for transit. We've tried this before. It's never happened, leading to funding shortfalls.

What makes us think it will be different this time?
November 14, 2025 at 12:12 PM
Oh don't worry. We're going to crowdfund those!
November 12, 2025 at 6:44 PM
But now we can also donate to underfunded programs and services!
November 12, 2025 at 5:57 PM
City of Ottawa is so broke we are literally asking for public donations to fund our infrastructure and debt servicing.

No joke
