... looking ahead to 2026, I'll do some dipping in I think. Images from Cleopatra (1963) with Taylor, Burton, Harrison.

Card drafts. Four added per turn as encounter escalates.

Progress on this? Am Tudored up to my eyeballs so not for a while. I also like to visit a battlefield if I can so that I am happy with my terrain analysis, simple though it may be. My three test battles are Edgehill for early (done), Benburb for small (ditto) and Marston Moor for later (in queue).

The dice I was originally using were 6 = hit (ugh as a term but no need for red squares, green circles), 5 = depends AKA sabres and 1 for flag / retreat / test for rout. To
Visually filter out the nopes I went for three images, at least for now. 1 retreater, 5 hats and SIX in a C17th script.

Is the ‘tale’ in the Rump cards pack Bristol or something else?
November 24, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Fines ‘whereby hangs a tale’ is usually Fiennes in the modern record. MP, spare son of a Viscount. The tale? Surrender of Bristol, or one of the many things he was involved in? Lived quietly in the Restoration.

Enough to play around with once I have some red team ones done. Moving on from wooden blocks and pieces of card.

These figures selected from these Red Box of Ukraine sets.

Sample figures sprayed for mounting. Black as these linked to suits in a pack of cards. Red will be for rebels. Aim is a Memoir / Battle Cry feel, but based as no removals needed and knocking over avoided.

Although I deployed in a way that just didn't anticipate where my opponent would enter, this was a fun game and the hidden units aspect was catered for well by a combination of the way the current Vassal modules work and my dropping snaps and screenshots into a DropBox folder.

Round 3 ends in a tie-break win. I manage to win due to taking the last trick (by 1 pip - if there were pips). Great, compact, tight game.

The knights are a great choice. Moving them along the fronts if victorious feels like progress of sorts.

Close. Just managing to push Parliament back in the West to get a 2:1 to 1:1 win.
