... looking ahead to 2026, I'll do some dipping in I think. Images from Cleopatra (1963) with Taylor, Burton, Harrison.

I can't say that naval gaming is one of my front rank things, but..

In the glue zone. Swiss pike, cannon, Gendarmes.

Card drafts. Four added per turn as encounter escalates.

Plodding along with provisional formations for 1530s-40s Tudor Battles, with an eye also to late Italian Wars. Red Rebel, Black Crown.

Progress on this? Am Tudored up to my eyeballs so not for a while. I also like to visit a battlefield if I can so that I am happy with my terrain analysis, simple though it may be. My three test battles are Edgehill for early (done), Benburb for small (ditto) and Marston Moor for later (in queue).

The dice I was originally using were 6 = hit (ugh as a term but no need for red squares, green circles), 5 = depends AKA sabres and 1 for flag / retreat / test for rout. To
Visually filter out the nopes I went for three images, at least for now. 1 retreater, 5 hats and SIX in a C17th script.

Fines ‘whereby hangs a tale’ is usually Fiennes in the modern record. MP, spare son of a Viscount. The tale? Surrender of Bristol, or one of the many things he was involved in? Lived quietly in the Restoration.

Reuse, recycle. When I saw the Nathaniel Fines card in @fredserval.bsky.social ‘s Civil Whist I remembered I had used him in my C&C:ECW variant project.

Enough to play around with once I have some red team ones done. Moving on from wooden blocks and pieces of card.

These figures selected from these Red Box of Ukraine sets.
November 24, 2025 at 10:10 AM
Sample figures sprayed for mounting. Black as these linked to suits in a pack of cards. Red will be for rebels. Aim is a Memoir / Battle Cry feel, but based as no removals needed and knocking over avoided.

Wheeler / Dan exits his Cavalry having gained enough VPs for a truly strong win. He didn't find three of my hidden wagons, but the rest came to grief. #GCACW

Hexagonal bases awaiting some figures for the Western Rising etc. Tudor Battles System. Most formations middle size (just smaller than a C&C hex), detachments smaller, elite larger.

Round 3 ends in a tie-break win. I manage to win due to taking the last trick (by 1 pip - if there were pips). Great, compact, tight game.

The one where I start round 2 with the Royalists pushing hard.
November 23, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Today, and possibly tomorrow, paint will fly as I put together eight or so sample formations for the Tudor Battle System (1530s and 40s). Moving on from blocks, card counters and models that fall over.

Close. Just managing to push Parliament back in the West to get a 2:1 to 1:1 win.
November 21, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Parliament pushing me hard and ignoring public support.

Out comes the Tayto variety box of generally Renaissance figures skewed towards Red Box.

Getting to the trying out based figure formations for the Tudor Battle System. These hexagons, 20mm on a side, are for the current experiment of a few units.

The precise pricing is always amusing. And at this price I probably should have bought more for those translucent pastel dice situations.
November 20, 2025 at 6:46 AM
I couldn’t pass up these Søstrene Grene translucent pastel dice for that day when I will want to reach for… translucent pastel dice.

Playing around with cards for possible Italian Wars parallel to Tudor Battle System (if you get this far, why stop?)... maybe.
November 14, 2025 at 9:01 AM
Dud. All have appeared as cards and/or counters in game projects this year.
