In the US, even a “cheap” transit bus costs 2-3x more than in Asia or Europe -- and one agency may pay twice as much as another for nearly identical vehicles.

In Bloomberg, I explored a ripe opportunity to improve transportation by applying Abundance-coded, supply-side reforms.

🧵
Why US Cities Pay Too Much for Transit Buses
A new paper argues that lack of competition, demand for custom features and “Buy America” rules have driven up costs for transit agencies in the US.

Really helpful reminder (as a Transportation Planner) about how the way we talk about transit and the way we frame questions for decision makers, has tremendous impact.
When I commuted from San Francisco to study at Stanford in the late 1980s, the San Francisco peninsula rail line @caltrain.com was a primary limiting factor on my education. It ran every two hours and stopped at 10 PM.

Key section of 1973 War Powers Res: president can take military action in three cases: a declaration of war, “specific statutory authorization” or “a national emergency created by attack upon” the US or its assets. *Congress has often looked the other way, but that’s the legal question.

“I was the most transparent, and am, transparent President in history,” Trump said.
Social Security has stopped publicly reporting its processing times for benefits, the 1-800 number’s current call wait time and numerous other performance metrics, which customers and advocates have used to track the agency’s struggling customer service programs.

I’m going to see Metallica at Levi’s Stadium on Friday. Parking passes cost $250 on the resale market.

The venue is well served by transit, including a light rail stop right at the stadium for $2.50.

Why would anyone would pay for parking when such affordable and convenient transit options exist?

The GOP budget shows this regime’s true colors.

It doesn’t eliminate taxes on tips, social security or overtime. That was just a lie.

Instead, it slashes health care & food assistance.

All to fund tax cuts for the wealthy & corporations.

The grift is almost complete. And we’ll all pay the price.

Making it harder for American consumers to understand the real cost of owning a washing machine isn’t MAGA, it’s just duping us into paying higher gas and electricity bills.

This @washingtonpost.com piece really puts the challenge of cultivating a vibrant urban forest in perspective.

$17,500 per month for an entire state…even a small one…is peanuts. It may be an increase over the baseline, which is good, but hardly transformative in the era of billion-dollar campaigns.
The Democratic National Committee will transfer more than $1 million per month to its state and territorial parties over the next four years in an effort to build state-level infrastructure and operations, reports @statesnewsroom.com via @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

How many times will the American public (and worldwide, for that matter) keep falling for this schtick of "stay tuned next week"-style teasers? This whole "it's just around the corner" bit is getting old.

3,403% tariffs. Because that extra 3% is gonna make all the difference.
sure what the hell. Announce thirteen billion percent tariffs next. 73 quintillion percent. eleventy gabillion percent. 29 brazillian percent. 35 dodecagorillion percent. who cares.

“The exemption for Chinese-made phones and laptops may also raise questions about why some U.S. businesses were singled out for tariff breaks and others like apparel and furniture retailers must still pay a whopping tariff rate on Chinese-made goods.” 🤡
