The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

The ticket price is a bit high but there’s no denying this is a beautiful church with ints of Saint-Chappelle in Paris and a very impressive altar. #montreal #canada #notredame #churchsky #canadasky #churchesoftheworld

Scenes from the Great Montreal Christmas Market yesterday. The snow made it extra magical. Heading to a couple more today. #christmastime #montreal #canada #christmasmarket #holidayseason

The Redpath Museum in Montreal is my kind of natural history museum. Old construction with a bunch of things thrown somewhat higgledy piggledy together in cases. Oh and free. #montreal #canada #mcgilluniversity #museums

First day of Montreal in the books. No Christmas markets yet but we did check out Notre Dame Basilica, Chateau Ramezay and just generally explored.

Venice is filled with wonders. One of my faves is Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo. The design is magical, and a climb to the top reveals my fave view of Venice. The trick, and part of the fun, is finding it among Venice’s maze of tight alleyways.

Near the Convent of Christ in Tomar, Portugal is the Pegões Aqueduct, medieval aqueduct built by the Knights Templar.

It’s neat to see but the best part is you can climb old stairs to walk on the aqueduct. It’s a bit sketchy. To the left - narrow walkways. To the right - VERY high.

Two years ago in Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska. One of those places where pictures and words can’t possibly do it justice.

Lived here almost two years and finally just put up our travel map. We got some pink pins to indicate places we’ve been with our 14-month-old (my wife could have picked a more distinct pink though lol). Excited to keep adding pins to the map!

The Chapel of Bones in Evora’s Franciscan church was built by monks in the 16th century as a reminder to society that death awaits us all regardless of our social status in life.

It’s a little eerie inside but actually mostly just peaceful.

My 21-year-old self would be dumbfounded to hear me say that there is literally nothing better than a pastry and tea on a weekend morning, especially when it’s nice enough to sit outside.

Porto’s Stock Exchange Palace is filled with ornately furnished and decorated rooms that can only be seen with a tour.

Tix are a bit confusing, and English tours are only offered a few times per day. You can buy tix ahead of time, but then you still have to wait in line to reserve your time.

Split a Francesinha sandwich in Porto with Michelle. It’s filled with meat (beef, sausage, ham and roast), caked in cheese, topped with an egg and then doused in a beer-based tomato sauce. It’s a bit over the top but very good. Could I have ate the whole thing? 🤷‍♂️ Would I have regretted it? 🤷‍♂️ #porto

Just finished collecting my notes on Portugal. Now I can share more pictures. To start with, here’s the Imperial McDonald’s. You sure don’t see this in ‘Merica.

I’ve been to a lot of museums but perhaps none quite as quirky - and fascinating - the Museum of Matchbooks in Tomar, Portugal. Thousands of matchbooks from all over the world and across decades. Who knew matchbooks could be so interesting. It’s all free, too!

Just finished hiking a couple miles of the Fisherman’s Trail from Salema to Sagres. Wish I could have done the whole thing but didn’t want to leave Michelle with our baby for too long. Lovely, secluded beaches and dramatic cliff views. Bring shoes with good grips!
