Computer scientist with a bunch of weird hobbies. I have mostly been linking news and making political comments. I plan to post more 3D print models and other math crafts when I can.

"When the world falls apart, some things stay in place."
Imagine how devastating this was. People often join clinical trials as one last sliver of hope.

The cruelty of this administration is unfathomable.

Are we supposed to take this seriously after over 8 years of cold stares?

I misread that as "all day deception", which is standard operating procedure for the Trump admin.

It's constitutional freedom of expression. She's an un-American Nazi.

Trump has a strange connection to American culture. There are things he seems to genuinely like, but they're stuck in time, such as Cats and Hannibal Lechter. They're all flashy big productions and they don't celebrate local weirdness and cultural diversity, which is real America in my view.

They're really hell-bent on destroying every small joy in life. I thought that's what they used to accuse liberals of.

Barring the "assaults" that amount to "the protester tried to block my fist with his face" these so-called federal agents wouldn't have to worry about doxxing if they were carrying out legitimate law enforcement. That is something we do in daylight in a democracy.

Why? Because NYT does the bidding of the powerful and always has.

Note: I pay attention to their reporting, because it is often thorough and accurate. But I'm not going to kid myself about their loyalties.

There needs to be a law that anyone with a reasonable expectation of being raptured must drive a vehicle capable of pulling aside and parking itself on the shoulder. It's going to be absolute carnage otherwise.

What percentage of Americans is into oppression porn? Obviously they're betting on a larger percentage than I would like to believe?

Can we reintroduce exile? Not just Bove but many others.

Anyone who replies to "Black lives matter." with anything other than "Yes" has said that Black lives don't matter. So of course it wasn't in good faith.

Oh whoops. I stole your closing. I guess it's the obvious takeaway from the title.

What gets me about Summers is that he was not only elite but positioned as a guardian of propriety. It makes me think there are many others like him.

Morality is for the little people. Just like paying taxes.

How is this even being debated? The most obvious turning point for me was when Elon Musk and some unvetted college dropouts were given high level access to sensitive information and the power to fire people. It's only gotten worse since then, but it was literally a cyberattack and people yawned.

I'm pretty sure I already hated Larry Summers, though I forgot the exact reason. What is it with "powerful men"? It doesn't seem correlated to politics. They are all creeps. Maybe not all, but enough that none of these stories surprise me.

I don't ask for ethics, just maturity and self-discipline.

...difficulty making such an assessment (which might have been true when I was young, not so much at age 60) the most reasonable choice would be to seek assistance of some kind. Musk could afford to have someone with him to read reactions and stop him from making an ass of himself.

He has no excuse

I don't even buy the idea of Musk as neurodivergent. I think he's just an asshole. I could be wrong about that. However, he'd say fewer stupid and offensive things if he hired an assistant to stop him, and unlike most people, he can afford one full time. So being an asshole is for him a choice ...

Yes, and brown people are bad too. They are "low IQ" according to Trump. Brown, hah hah.

This is either a Freudian slip or an intentional dog whistle.

I agree, but my first thought is what a great line for Chauncey Gardiner in "Being There". Granted, the words would have to be simplified.

"The grass is not dead, only sleeping. It will come back rich and green in the Spring."

"I think our insightful young friend is telling us to wait it out."
