Every last piece of transit & bike infrastructure seems to need to go thru "The Populist Playbook".

Scare, complain, reject; rinse, wash, repeat.

All the while the things we really should fear — generational poverty, climate chaos, species extinction — continue on.
Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?

Who could have predicted this?! Our Govt is wasting money on building stuff that makes traffic worse. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3608...

Look what happens when you build protected bike lanes!

Instead of spending billions on new roads, the govt should build more protected bike lanes!

How will robotaxis interact with pedestrians and people on bikes? Who will give way? @cyclingactionnz.bsky.social
Maybe I'm shortsighted but the looming danger of pedestrians being emboldened by the safety features of self-driving cars ... is just not a problem I can spin up much concern about.

A Mt Vic tunnel for private vehicles is a bad idea. Why?
Induced traffic, opportunity cost, embedded carbon.
PT, walking, cycling and demand management solutions would work better and cost less.

Trees, not tunnels. Save the Town Belt. Today, volunteers planted trees near the Basin Reserve to show community opposition to Govt plans to ram a monster tunnel through the Wellington Town Belt.

Is this the dumbest objection to bike lanes ever?
