Vote for new BikeLoud board members
The ballot is now open to elect new BikeLoud PDX board members. We have eight board members who were elected last year and are remaining on the board, and eight seats open for a new two-year term.

We have a great crew of candidates—check out their candidate information here and then use this link to cast your vote.

Voting is open to all members who have attended a BikeLoud meeting and paid membership dues within the past year. BikeLoud uses approval voting: you may cast a vote for every candidate you approve of, and the candidates with the most votes will be elected to the board (provided they also have support on a majority of ballots cast).

Voting will be open online through this Sunday, October 12. Help us choose a board to guide BikeLoud’s mission of reclaiming our streets for a safe and dignified bicycle transportation network accessible to all Portlanders.

Thanks,
–The BikeLoud Board"

Frogs stronger together.

Protest frogs have built in rain protection, and wearers can bundle up during cold spells.

Might costumes like these have potential for some future group bike rides?

“When streets became calmer & safer, more people felt comfortable trying a bike commute for the first time. Families began pedaling to the park…Local businesses saw new life…And cycling stopped feeling like a niche activity—it became part of everyday Parisian life.”

Riding a bike is healthy.
Riding with friends is fun.
Riding in groups builds community.

A key difference between people on bikes and those in cars is that people on bikes are usually happy to see others riding bikes, whereas those in cars often rage at other people in cars.

"The single most important behaviour, design or regulation for creating streets conducive to walking and cycling, was physical separation between the modes"

We've got a new study out, learning from a broad mixture of street users, planners and designers

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Highlights
For marginalised street users mode separation is the key to human-scale movement.
Streets conducive to walking and cycling have functional, safe and accessible design.
Professionals must approach street design, regulation and user behaviour holistically.
Combinations of influencing factors persuade people to either use or avoid a street.
There are no easy fixes to the public realm that will work for all non-drivers.
