I only know them tangentially so can’t say for sure, but I think YT in general selects for a sort of self-made indie style (at best earnestly scruffy and direct; at worst either irony-poisoned and self-hating, or obnoxiously self-promoting) that wouldn’t jive well with the Muppet Theater.

I think there’s a healthy contingent of conservatives who have internalized a tightly circumscribed definition of “racism”, and this was one of the first times he actually fell inside it in public.
