46. Now She Is Witch - Kirsty Logan

📚 Finished? ✅

This is a haunting piece of queer historical fiction about witches & otherness. I loved the story, but I really struggled with the chapters that had no punctuation. I know it was stream of consciousness, but my brain found it hard to navigate.

45. Labyrinth’s Heart - M. A. Carrick

📚 Finished? ✅

The conclusion to the Rook & Rose trilogy, and boy did it deliver! So many threads were wrapped up perfectly, and I LOVED the inclusion of Middle English. I’d happily read more books in this universe for sure. Very very good!

44. These Violent Delights - Chloe Gong

📚 Finished? Yep!

This is a historical fiction retelling of Romeo & Juliet set in 1920s Shanghai with a supernatural twist. It’s interesting, but there was something missing to truly hook me. It needed just a bit more oomph for me.

43. Days Of Shattered Faith - Adrian Tchaikovsky

📚 Finished? ✅

The 3rd in the Tyrant Philosophers fantasy series, this follows the Palleseen trying to gradually conquer a land through ‘diplomacy’ - and the people torn on both sides. It’s a tangled web, and I liked it. Also there’s a frog god 🐸

42. House Of Open Wounds - Adrian Tchaikovsky

📚 Finished? Yep!

The 2nd in the Tyrant Philosophers fantasy series, this tale is a snapshot of a war between two factions & the horrors they face daily. It’s a story of found family in the face of a warzone; the details, the characters, are wonderful.

41. Katabasis - R.F. Kuang

📚 Finished? Oh yes!

Oh, this was so much FUN. Two grad students have to venture into Hell/The Underworld to retrieve their thesis supervisor so they can complete their PhDs. It is hilarious, clever as fuck, and I had an absolute blast reading it. Highly recommend!

40. The Liar’s Knot - M. A. Carrick

📚 Finished? ✅

The 2nd in the Rook & Rose trilogy, and Ren is as mixed up as ever trying to balance 3 identities and solving the horrors in her city. The worldbuilding is A+, the characters are wonderful, but I needed more pace. Excited for the last book!

39. Medieval Horizons: Why The Middle Ages Matter - Ian Mortimer

📚 Finished? ✅

This was an intriguing look at how the medieval spurred progress in human history, and why the developments during the Middle Ages are as important as the ones in the present. I enjoyed it and learnt a lot!

Speaking of Mythal, HELLO 👀

I can’t lie, I was expecting a more interesting design, but meeting this younger fragment of her in person was chilling. She has so much rage in her, so much ice. No wonder the bond between her and Solas is so tangled.

38. The Kaiju Preservation Society - John Scalzi

📚 Finished? Yep!

This was DELIGHTFUL. If you’re a fan of Godzilla, of giant monsters, of anything like Pacific Rim’s kaiju - read this. It’s excellent, it’s fast paced, and never stops being fun. 🦖
August 24, 2025 at 10:42 PM
37. Goldenhand - Garth Nix

📚 Finished? ✅

2025 Reread! The 5th in the Abhorsen series, this follows Lirael and her fight to finally stop the necromancer Chlorr of the Mask. This gave me an intriguing look into the wider world of the series, and I enjoyed it! It just needed more magic to grab me.

12) Hot Pot For One

🎮 Finished? Yep!

This is a short & lovely little game about being alone one night & enjoying Chinese hot pot. You make the hot pot you want - each ingredient gives you poignant hand-drawn memories of your childhood hot pot with family.

This game was made with love & it shows 🥰

11) MakeRoom

🎮 Finished? N/A!

This is a charming little decoration game which is the perfect game to snuggle up with on rainy days. The range of items is vast, and the only limit is your imagination. It’s such a warm-hearted game. Big recommend!

36. Clariel - Garth Nix

📚 Finished? Yes!

2025 Reread! The 4th in the Abhorsen series, this is a prequel origin story for one of the antagonists of the original trilogy. It was a delightful return to the world, but it didn’t grab me as much as the previous books did. It needed more oomph.
August 11, 2025 at 9:14 AM
35. Abhorsen - Garth Nix

📚 Finished? Yup!

2025 Reread! The last book in the original Abhorsen trilogy, this packs a punch. Oh boy. I was wondering how it would all come together; the way it did was excellent. Hugely fond of some of the reveals. I came away with renewed affection for the trilogy.
August 8, 2025 at 10:05 PM
34. Lirael - Garth Nix

📚 Finished? Oh yes!

2025 Reread! The 2nd in the Abhorsen series, this might be my favourite. A strange dog, a young librarian, a mage prince - the way it all comes together in regards to the Dead and ancient necromancy is 🤌

It’s such a good sequel, it really is.

Me in Act 1 of Clair Obscur rn:
August 2, 2025 at 8:08 PM
33. Sabriel - Garth Nix

📚 Finished? ✅

2025 Reread! This was one of my 1st big fantasy loves. A teenage necromancer sets out to rescue her father, the Abhorsen, from the Dead. It has incredible ideas; I LOVE the way the book deals with death and the afterlife, especially the necromancy bells 🤌🤌
July 25, 2025 at 11:44 PM
32. In The Shadow Of Spindrift House - Mira Grant

📚 Finished? Oh yes!

Weird creepy house that breaks reality? Check. Unsettling water folklore horror? Check. The slow mounting knowledge that something is absolutely wrong and the ocean is full of nightmares? Big fuckin CHECK.

Ooo it’s a good’un!

a) that’s my face, and I photoshopped it years ago from a photo I took

and b) it’s not AI.

I have never used generative AI; I never will.

By all means please be a dick to AI dingbats! I think they’re atrocious!

But my profile isn’t an AI image.
