I'm pleased to report that Lionel has got his paws on the wonderful @unchcrosswords.com - we had the pleasure of testing the very clever barred puzzle "Unch #1" by @cranberryfez.bsky.social that appears in the middle of the magazine, and now he gets to show it off to little Louie!
Lionel, a Jellycat soft toy lion, sat on a green chair with a copy of Unch magazine issue #1 between his paws. The magazine is now opened to the puzzle by Cranberry - Lionel, holding a pencil in his paws (which totally isn't just resting on a carefully-positioned eraser), is using it to point out the thematic clues to Louie, another, smaller Jellycat lion.

A warning message from Twitch: "Are you sure you want to send this? Your message may contain words that could be considered offensive or disrespectful." - the message in question being "actually turns out wiktionary has an entry for the phrase "with blackjack and hookers" so i guess we could lobby [Chambers] for that" there is also a disclaimer "Did we get this wrong? Let us know." and uh i did not have it in me to go up to Twitch's safety team and ask for permission to make a Futurama reference

Forest Shuffle is a fun game with lots of cute animals and an intricate ruleset that lets you do things to make everyone else at the table groan simultaneously. Highly recommended.

The focus is on a Silver Fir card, which scores 2 points for every other card attached to it; while normally the maximum number of cards you can attach to a tree is four, one on each side, in this instance I have legally placed four hares horizontally (not uncommon, relatively doable, I've managed more before), a single Stinging Nettle on the underside (a card from an expansion pack) and a tower of seven butterflies on top (absolutely unhinged play). The tower of butterflies takes up two-thirds of the image and soars past a clump of several other trees, just to really drive it home.

Okay, I know pretty much everyone else here has given up on Word Grid by this point, but it's only now that I have finally achieved what I've been wanting to...
A section of the Word Grid leaderboard as it stood ~10 minutes ago, showing me in 42nd place with a grid rarity of 0.058 and 7 unicorns, and the other Panthera, of sudoku and Japanese Sums fame, behind me in 45th place with a grid rarity of 0.065 and 5 unicorns.

Update: after some encouragement to pursue asymmetry from @juffowup.bsky.social, I think the first grid here is the one, bar some tweaking to perfect the fill. And then, because I'm me, I wasted another few hours proving that I *could* fit everything I wanted into the symmetric second grid. Whoops!
A properly checked but asymmetric 15x15 crossword grid, with decent enough connectivity. A symmetric 15x15 crossword grid that, while it has proper checking, does so with double unches and some fun-looking dead spots in the top-left and bottom-right corners.
