I know it can feel like an impossible point to make, but really I'm sure anyone can understand the fundamental idea: if something is bending over backwards to make things as easy and painless as possible I feel like they're selling me something, the feeling of leisure dies to a feeling of suspicion.

Sometimes I want a jrpg to be a mean old cuss! Temperamental, arcane, and forcefully itself.

Part of me wants to have a smooth and charming and pleasing experience with a Dragon Quest game (although I like calling 1 through 7 Dragon Warrior, to differentiate the time period and to be difficult of course) part of me absolutely does not want to have a smooth experience with an old jrpg.

I know a smooth and gentle user experience is something all kinds of programmers should strive for, but these kind of changes often leave games feeling bereft of personality to me, anemic.

Not that I haven't played these sorts of games, I love love the Live-A-Live remake.

Beautiful, contemporary UI: 👍
