The Breeze dominate the halftime scrimmage 6-0 over Philly. Lots of drops and overthrown passes by the Phoenix, who struggled with the longer dimensions of the NFL field.

At Northwest Stadium tonight where the DC Breeze are playing the Philadelphia Phoenix in an ultimate frisbee exhibition. (There is also an NFL football game being played before and after the frisbee game)

I'm sure there are reasons why it makes sense for the Commanders as a franchise to host an international game, but let's not pretend "a great fan opportunity" is one of them. DC fans will have 8 home games in 2026 while much of the NFC will have 9.

Took one last trip around RFK Stadium in DC this week. The historic stadium's slow demolition continues, with the new home of the Commanders coming in 2030.

A combined team photo with Howard after #Mizzou's 88-67 season-opening win.

Not every day your alma mater flies halfway across the country for a true road game against a mid-major in an intimate arena in your hometown.

It's about 40% #Mizzou fans here at Howard for the men's basketball season opener.

In 2020, Mizzou-Vanderbilt was a 41-0 blowout with a COVID-limited crowd that only got national attention because of Sarah Fuller becoming the first woman to appear in a Power conference game. Vandy never even got into FG range.

Today, it's a top-15 College Gameday matchup.

There is still a press release on Maryland's website from 2009 when they announced James Franklin as head coach in waiting.

After an AD change, UMD went back on its promise, and Franklin left for Vanderbilt.

Time to correct that mistake and bring Franklin back to College Park.

Madness in Charlottesville. Virginia fans storm the field after upsetting Florida State in double OT.

Watching #1 draft pick Eli Willits in his 14th professional game tonight in Fredericksburg. The FredNats are also within reach of clinching a Carolina League division title tonight.

In Episode 5, we find out that Ned plays ultimate frisbee. I swear I was never interviewed by the creators of this show, but they must have really done their research

The fictional website looks almost identical to the real one (although the real Blade is not full of clickbait stories, sponsored content and popup ads)
September 4, 2025 at 6:13 PM
Like the Truth Teller, The Blade also has an old, no-longer-used press in the bowels of the building. It was too expensive to keep using and too expensive to remove, so it just sits there, and the paper gets printed somewhere else.

The way Mare dragged and dropped a story on to the page she's designing is exactly what we did at The Blade, although we don't actually use InDesign for that part. We do use a system that occasionally lags and locks everyone out for a few seconds, so they got that part right.
September 4, 2025 at 6:10 PM
The look and feel of the newsroom on the show were definitely inspired by the real Toledo Blade. This wall with framed editions under a sign with the paper's name and slogan is basically the same.

In one of the first scenes of Peacock's The Paper, we see them using InDesign to design... a website

(threading some of my thoughtsas a former Toledo newspaper employee below)

DC United, already eliminated from the playoffs with almost two months left in the season, will finally appear on linear television for the first time all year.

The Audi Field scoreboard couldn't handle the 11 minutes of stoppage time, so it started over after hitting 100:00

Great to be back at a Spirit game for the first time in a few years

Feb. 3, 2018: Jordan Barnett and Kassius Robertson both outscored Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as #Mizzou beat No. 21 Kentucky at a striped out Mizzou Arena.

After a great two-plus years in Toledo, last night was my final shift at The Blade. I'm very grateful for the opportunity I've had here.

In a few weeks, I'm excited to be moving back to the east coast to be a copy editor at the Richmond Times-Dispatch!

Only in the UFL: The Michigan Panthers challenged for a defensive PI that wasn't called on the play. The replay review center was broadcast to the whole stadium, and officials said that while there may have been holding on the play, there wasn't PI, so the challenge failed.

Watching the NCAA hockey regionals in Toledo today. My first time watching college hockey in person. I'm about to spend 6 hours in the Huntington Center, including (at least) four intermissions and an hour break between games where you're not allowed to leave and re-enter.

Nothing like college basketball in March.
