Prof Elden, on Latour’s Down to Earth:
There is “a conviction, shared by some powerful people, that the ecological threat is real and that the only way for them to survive is to abandon any pretense at sharing a common future with the rest of the world”
precursors to civilisational collapse:
❗️Climate catastrophe
❗️War
❗️Pandemic

we’ve got all three in the bag

when are people going to stop dreaming of that “instagram-lifestyle” and wake up?

And that’s just copper.

Expect very high toxic chemical pollution from REEs - “rare-earth” elements needed for the transition* away from fossil fuels

Magnetic-REE demand is due to tripple by 2035 …

It was a suitable budget within the parameters of pre-election pledges, maintaining some kind of long-term economic strategy, and an electorate turned insane by X-algorithms.

Rejoining the EU would be the beginnings of a cure, but not survivable politically (leading to a Reform disaster).

Andy Haldane at the FT wrote a good article on this last month.

In 2013, there was reportedly a letter, by then-English teacher at Dulwich College, Chloë Deakin, to the school’s headmaster warning against making Farage a prefect. She cited “publicly professed racist and neo-fascist views”

it’s almost as if the French philosopher Latour was right …

this civilisation will surely be coming back Down To Earth with a bump, and those who you talk of have attached a cushion to their arses.

ABCs (“anyone but c***s”)
will all need to come together to fight the shitstorm of authoritarianism that is hurtling down the track.

What good can ABCs do as a minority on the back benches?
